Wednesday, December 16th, 2020

Community members can learn about the COVID-19 vaccine and get their questions answered by Tidelands Health experts during virtual programs this week.

The health system is partnering with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to offer the free educational sessions, “COVID-19 Vaccine: What You Need to Know.”

Dr. Gerald Harmon, vice president of medical affairs at Tidelands Health, and Gayle Resetar, the health system’s chief operating officer, will give the latest update on COVID-19 vaccines and answer participants’ questions.

It is free to attend the virtual sessions:

Tidelands Health is on track to begin distributing the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to team members this week. Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved an emergency use authorization for the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, the first COVID-19 vaccine to be approved for distribution in the United States. This week, the FDA is expected to consider an EUA for another COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.

“The arrival of a safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19 can be a turning point in our battle against this highly contagious virus,” Dr. Harmon said. “As we have throughout this pandemic, Tidelands Health is committed to keeping our community updated on the latest developments and sharing accurate information to help keep them healthy. We are eager to share the latest and answer questions during the virtual sessions this week.”

Community members also can find information about the COVID-19 vaccine in the comprehensive COVID-19 vaccine resource center at tidelandshealth.org.
