The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council presents the Educated Voices On Leading and Valuing Equity (EVOLVE) series. This new series will provide an in-depth look at diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

“EVOLVE is the next step in our ongoing commitment to promoting growth and enhancing community awareness about the value and advantages of creating and sustaining diverse and inclusive businesses and workplace environments,” said Karen Riordan, MBACC president & CEO. “This series will provide educational opportunities for business owners to learn about and implement inclusive strategies to support today’s diverse workforce.”

The first session, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) 101 – First Steps to Creating Transformative Change in the Workplace, will be a virtual program on July 29 at 10 a.m. In this session, participants will be introduced to the concepts of DEI and will leave with a deeper understanding of DEI as well as actionable ways to increase inclusive practices, both as individuals and members of organizations.

DEI 101 will be led by Atiya Stokes-Brown, the vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at Coastal Carolina University, board member for MBACC and chair of the DEI council.

Additional EVOLVE sessions are scheduled as follows:

  • Aug. 20 – Generations at Work

  • Sept. 17 – Unconscious and Implicit Bias

  • Oct. 15 – Microaggressions

  • Nov. 19 – DEI Strategic Planning

All sessions will begin at 10 a.m. and are virtual until further notice. All sessions are free and open to the public. Chamber membership is not required.
