Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) confirmed the plans surrounding the 2020 Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony, originally scheduled for May 2020, was postponed due to the circumstances related to COVID-19. The College will host the 2020 Commencement Ceremony on Tuesday, October 27, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to host our commencement ceremony in October,” said Dr. Marilyn M. Fore, HGTC President. “It was disappointing not to be able to host graduation at the scheduled time and, we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. We are looking forward to a grand celebration for our graduates in October!”
Students eligible to participate in the October 27 ceremony must have completed degree requirements in December 2019, May 2020, or August 2020 and scheduled to complete degree requirements in December 2020. Students planning to participate in the October ceremony should submit a Graduation Application to the HGTC Registrar’s Office no later than October 1, 2020. Students who already submitted Graduation Applications, do not need to submit an additional one at this time.
Caps and gowns will be available for purchase in the HGTC bookstore once campus offices are permitted to provide face-to-face services for students and members of the public. Caps and gowns may also be purchased online directly through Herff Jones. The deadline to obtain caps and gowns for the October 27 Commencement Ceremony is Tuesday, October 20.
The College will provide more information to graduating students about the number of tickets that will be distributed as guidelines related to COVID-19 become available from sources such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).
