Unprecedented issues call for innovation and pioneering solutions. The education system has been vastly affected by these extraordinary times. Luckily, even before the impacts from COVID-19, South Carolina state departments, businesses, and education platforms were working on tools to provide proper training to residents to accommodate the rapidly growing and diverse industries in the state. Santee Cooper is one of many entities adapting its programs and resources to meet the needs of the schools and workforce development programs. Here is a list of a few of the educational resources available to South Carolinians.

Be Pro, Be Proud SC Workforce Workshop

In response to South Carolina’s immense need of skilled professionals, the state has developed Be Pro Be Proud SC as a hub for educators and young people to explore different trade careers and how to receive training in those careers. A new addition to the program is the Workforce Workshop that is available to South Carolina businesses, schools and community events. The Workforce Workshop is a mobile unit that provides interactive experience with skilled professions and an in-depth view of the jobs.

SC Codes

Careers in technology are booming in South Carolina, and the SC Department of Commerce’s Office of Innovation and Build Carolina have collaborated to create SC Codes to meet this need. SC Codes provides all residents of South Carolina a learning platform to receive free (yes, free!) virtual training and mentorship in programming and coding. The courses are open to all regardless of your technology background and they are courses you complete at your own pace anywhere you can access the internet.

Tallo Education Platform and Career Workshops

Tallo, formally known as STEM Premier, offers a venue for businesses and colleges to connect with students 13 years of age or older. On this digital platform, students can showcase their academic and extracurricular scores, awards, accomplishments and skills. Through Tallo, students can send admission applications and resumes to schools, access scholarship opportunities and connect to companies for job shadowing and internships. Plus, Tallo has an app!

Boeing’s Virtual DREAMLEARNERS Program

Looking for interactive education resources and programs to help develop creative and critical thinking skills? Check out Boeing SC's Education Programs. I have had the privilege to observe the on-site and virtual education workshops, tours and activity sessions. As a former educator, I recommend all schools participate in any of Boeing SC’s K-12 education resources and learning exercises. The education team provides presentations on everything from careers and future planning to the process of building an airplane.

Santee Cooper Virtual Resources

Presentations, experiments, workforce development, teacher lesson plans, free educational publications, oh my! Santee Cooper's Education Programs has it all! Santee Cooper hired experienced teachers to develop and implement their educational resources and programs. For many years, we have provided classroom presentations, facility tours, and South Carolina K-12 teacher trainings.

To meet the needs of the COVID-19 education era, the Education Programs team has created virtual resources for elementary, middle and high school levels. These resources include virtual lessons, digital materials, virtual field trips, job shadowing, and specialized pre-recorded lessons. Whether you teach kindergarteners or high school seniors, we have a learning resource to meet your needs. All of Santee Cooper’s resources are aligned to South Carolina State Education Standards. Also, don’t forget about our interactive learning website for kids!
