The Public Charter School Alliance of SC has named State Treasurer Curtis Loftis as its Charter Champion of the year for 2019. Treasurer Loftis was recognized for his hard work and dedication to our state’s charter schools and especially his work to establish the Charter School Facility Revolving Loan Program.
In a statement Treasurer Loftis said “I am humbled and honored to be recognized by the Charter School Alliance as its Charter School Champion of the Year. I have enjoyed meeting and visiting with many charter school leaders across our state to better understand the varying needs they have in terms of adequate facilities. The SC Charter School Revolving Loan Fund can provide an attractive funding mechanism for some of these facility projects, and the State Treasurer’s Office is pleased to offer this valuable service to the charter school community.”
The program serves public charter schools across the state by providing low-interest loans. These loans provide accepted applicants with initial funding for constructing, purchasing, renovating and maintaining public charter school facilities.
“We are extremely proud to present this award to Treasurer Loftis for his support of our state charter schools,” said Carol Aust, Executive Director of the Public Charter School Alliance of SC. “This program provides our charter schools with cost-effective funding to make significant facility improvements they need to ensure great learning environments.”
Earlier this year the state’s only charter school for students with dyslexia received the first loan from the program. The low-interest loan was awarded to Lakes and Bridges Charter School in Easley. It will allow the school to transform a former commercial building into a viable school facility for students, teachers, and families.
