As part of its 30th anniversary celebration – being held on Saturday, May 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Frances Marion Park on Front Street in Georgetown, South Carolina – the non-profit announces a commitment of $30,000 to expand its Youth Empowerment Program, aimed to connect at-risk high school seniors with a program that promotes stability and health in their lives.
“The importance of providing our county’s youth with the right tools and opportunity for a successful life has never been more important than today,” said Dick Rose, Board President of Helping Hands of Georgetown County. “In 2018, Helping Hands assisted 86 people in obtaining full-time employment through our collaborative jobs program; as we continue this effort and expand our reach through our new Youth Empowerment initiative, we can truly make an impact on the poverty and employment issues many residents in Georgetown County experience.”
The Youth Empowerment Program prepares students for employment success in a manner that is a win/win formula for the students and their future employers by emphasizing personal character and discipline, the value of teamwork, and the relationship between personal and corporate success. The $30,000 will be used to expand this program with the goal of having a presence in all four county high schools in the future.
The Youth Empowerment Program is built on the assumption that breaking the cycle of poverty is extraordinarily difficult and requires patience and time on the part of all. Including:
Weekly required meetings build relationships that are vital for program success.
Monthly Saturday experiences provide windows to new possibilities and perspectives.
Outward Bound off-site experience builds confidence and trust, leading to success.
Come one, come all! Helping Hands of Georgetown County hosts its community-wide celebration of its 30th anniversary and all are welcome. Partygoers can enjoy live music, activities for the children, delicious cake and ice cream! Hosted by 30+ local church congregations in the community, Helping Hands will be recognizing these Covenant Churches with a visual representation outlining the form of a cross along Harbor Walk.
