Hurricane Florence Update from the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce
Staff Report From South Carolina CEO
Tuesday, September 11th, 2018
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is working closely with Horry County Emergency Management in tracking Hurricane Florence. While we’re still uncertain as to where the hurricane will make landfall, we are on alert and are initiating our hurricane response plan as a precaution.
We advise all visitors, members, and residents to pay close attention to all weather and news reports and to be prepared. If you have plans to visit the area this week, we recommend that you contact your hotels and accommodations directly for information on their policy pertaining to hurricanes.
“We encourage both visitors and residents to take great care to protect loved ones and property as we prepare for Florence,” said Karen Riordan, President and CEO of the MBACC. “We need to follow best practices for hurricane preparedness, so we can minimize the negative impacts on our community. We encourage everyone to stay calm and be both prepared and informed.”
We will continue to provide regular updates on our websites, social media accounts and email, and will assist travelers through our welcome centers and call centers.
Initial updates have been posted on both websites. If the storm threat increases, the Myrtle Beach Area Hurricane/Disaster Center will be activated on website homepages and we will provide continuous updates through all channels.
