Tidelands Health has received a $500,000 grant from The Duke Endowment as part of a longstanding partnership between the two organizations to improve health and wellness in Georgetown County.
The funding will be used to support the ongoing growth of Tidelands Community Care Network, a public-private partnership that helps break down barriers to medical care for uninsured and underinsured adults. The program was established in 2011 with the support of a $500,000 grant from The Duke Endowment and has now received four grants totaling $2 million from the organization.
“This generous grant from The Duke Endowment will help Tidelands Community Care Network continue to transform lives in our community,” said Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health. “On behalf of TCCN and the people we serve, I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to The Duke Endowment for this incredible gift.”
Since inception, TCCN has served more than 3,000 people by connecting them with access to primary care, specialty care, affordable medication, behavioral health care, dental care, transportation and more. It continues to grow and evolve to help meet community needs.
In 2017, for example, TCCN launched new diabetes prevention and community-based palliative care programs.
Still, as the program focuses on addressing the needs of individual clients today, it also looks toward the future. One of TCCN’s greatest community benefits is its role as a facilitator helping to foster partnerships and increase cross-sector collaboration. The result is stronger links within the community that lead to more integrated care and better health outcomes.
TCCN’s partners include more than two dozen not-for-profit, government and faith-based organizations.
“With the support of The Duke Endowment, we have made incredible strides improving health and wellness within the community,” said Linda Bonesteel, director of TCCN. “Still, we have much more work to do.
“This funding from The Duke Endowment will allow us to build upon our successes as we confront the health challenges facing our community.”
The Duke Endowment’s support for TCCN is part of a longstanding partnership with Tidelands Health that extends back to 1997. Over the years, the endowment has granted more than $4 million to the health system.
